Tony Weaver, an associate professor of sport and event management, spoke with WFMY News 2 in Greensboro, N.C., on March 13 for a television news segment that explored the future of basketball in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the addition of new teams in the years ahead.
The report aired the night before the start of the 2013 men’s basketball conference tournament in Greensboro.
Weaver made several observations, including:
1.) Greensboro won’t be as likely to host the tournament as new cities compete for the opportunity.
2.) Fans will be less likely to get tickets since there will be a smaller allotment of tickets per school.
3.) Weaver said he believes the conference will now boast the highest skill level of college basketball in the country.
4.) New teams have loyal fan bases likely willing to travel to Greensboro when it does host the tournament.
