Elon University’s Lambda Pi Eta chapter will celebrate students, faculty and staff within the School of Communications.
Elon’s chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society, is sponsoring a celebration of students, faculty and within School of Communications April 15-19. The event will highlight the work of the people who make the School.
“Communications Week is another way to celebrate the many great students, faculty, staff and resources within the School of Communications,” said senior Hannah Nelson, Lambda Pi Eta president. “Highlighting different aspects within our school throughout the week will demonstrate the richness and complexities of Elon’s School of Communications.”
Communications Week kicks off with a two-day “Thank You” campaign for students to show their appreciation for the school’s faculty and staff. The event will be held Monday and Tuesday.
The week’s events will continue with professional drop-in hours for students on Wednesday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m. Director of Internships Nagatha Tonkins will meet with students on Wednesday and Career Advising Fellow Katie Smith will meet with students on Thursday. Students can walk in and seek advice on resumes, cover letters, networking and finding an internship. Their offices are located on the first floor of the McEwen. Refreshments will be available.
On Thursday evening, current members of Lambda Pi Eta will mentor younger students within the school at a session titled “How to Succeed as a Communications Major.” First- and second-year students will gain advice and insight into the field of communications from junior and senior students. The event will begin at 4:15 p.m. McEwen 009.
The week wraps up with round table scholarship presentations and a luncheon. A number of senior capstone students will showcase their research projects from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday in McEwen’s Studio B. The students will present their findings and analyses on current communications topics in short 10-minute discussions. Following the research presentations, a lunch will be held for faculty, staff and Lambda Pi Eta members.
The Elon chapter of Lambda Pi Eta has more than 90 members and was founded in 1998. The goals of Lambda Pi Eta are to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement within the School of Communications. Elon’s chapter adviser is Frances Ward-Johnson, associate professor and associate department chair in the School of Communications. There are more than 400 active chapters across the country and worldwide.
