Eighty-five percent of alumni responding to a survey report they are employed, have been accepted to graduate/professional school, are completing a post-graduate internship/fellowship, are working for a service organization or are voluntarily taking time off.
The Student Professional Development Center and Office of Career Services released an update on the Class of 2012 this week. Each class is surveyed three times — at graduation, three months out and nine months out. The information below is based on the final nine month out survey.
Elon alumni continue to report increasing rates of employment. Just as importantly, the percentage of those employed who indicated that their position related to their career goals continues to be very high. The percentage of graduates going on to graduate or professional school also remained strong.
Ninety percent of survey respondents reported utilizing career services while at Elon. The national average for that figure is 79 percent, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). The median reported salary for the class at this time is $37,000 and the mean is $41,000.
Of the 993 members of the Class of 2012 who responded to the survey (87 percent), graduates report the following:
- 85 percent of all respondents are employed, have been accepted to graduate/professional school, are completing a post-graduate internship/fellowship, are working for a service organization (Peace Corps, Teach For America, etc.), or have indicated voluntarily taking time off.
- 66 percent of all respondents are employed.
- 86 percent of all those reporting employment have indicated that their current position “is related to my career objective.”
- 27 percent of all survey respondents have reported acceptance to graduate or professional school (by comparison, 26 percent of the class of 2011 reported acceptance to graduate or professional school at this same time).
- 87 percent of this class completed an internship while at Elon (for credit and not for credit).
Of those employed:
- 40 percent report acquiring the job lead through their internship
- 36 percent report acquiring the job lead through family or friends
- 18 percent report acquiring the job lead through Elon alumni
