Two pairs of psychology students mentored by Associate Professor Amy Overman gave research presentations April 20, 2013, at the 38th Annual Carolinas Psychology Conference at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C.
Garrett Tante ’13 and Elon College Fellow Ben Schwartz ’13 presented a talk, “Multiple Repetitions, Perception of Control, and Associative Memory in Young and Older Adults,” which examined relationships between individuals’ perceived control of memory and their actual memory performance, in young and older adults. This presentation was co-authored by Overman and reflects one facet of her primary line of research into differences between young and older adult memory.
Jessica Katschke ’13 and Lauren Packard ’13 presented a talk, “Examining the Mechanisms of Information Integration in Speech Perception,” that tested individual differences in how people combine visual and auditory information in order to categorize speech sounds. The presentation was also co-authored by Overman and by Joseph D.W. Stephens, Assistant Professor of Psychology at North Carolina A&T State University. It reflects one of Overman’s ongoing collaborations with researchers in the field of cognitive neuroscience.
