The students of Garden Studio are hosting the annual heirloom plant sale and strawberry festival May 10 at the Elon Community Garden.
There will be music and a variety of plants and strawberry treats for sale. The event is from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The plants will be available beginning at 1:30 p.m., but the strawberry beverages, ice cream, shortcake and berries for dipping won’t be available until 3 p.m.
All the available plants were seeded in the greenhouse and potted in a signature soil blend that includes Elon compost made at the garden. The pots are made of composted cow manure and can be put in the ground along with the plants.
Zinnias, heirloom tomato plants, including Cherokee purple, along with sweet and hot pepper and German and Chinese cucumber plants will be on sale. This year’s sale also features a wide selection of exotic basil plants, from basic Genovese to reds, purples, cinnamons, lemon-lime and rare Persian blue spice basil.
Elon Community Garden is at 410 E. College Ave., near Powell House.
