New members elected to Elon’s Law School Advisory Board

  Marc D. Bishop, a partner with the law firm of Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP, and Ronny B. Lancaster, Senior Vice President for Government Relations at Assurant Inc., have joined the Elon University Law School Advisory Board.

Bishop and Lancaster join an esteemed group of legal professionals on the advisory board, including a former adviser to four United States presidents, two former North Carolina governors and three former Chief Justices of the North Carolina Supreme Court.

“The depth of experience in law and the scope of contributions to society that Marc Bishop and Ronny Lancaster bring to Elon’s Law School Advisory Board will be a tremendous resource in support of the academic and service missions of Elon Law,” said law school dean George R. About Marc D. Bishop

A partner with the law firm of Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP in Greensboro, NC, Marc Bishop’s practice is concentrated in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and general business representation. He represents operating businesses, business owners, entrepreneurs, borrowers, lenders, issuers and investors. Further, he has handled over 150 mergers and acquisitions and over 100 private equity investments, ranging from purchases and sales of small, closely held and family owned businesses to complex transactions for private and public companies involving purchase prices and financing of up to $600 million. Bishop serves as the general corporate counsel to a variety of companies, providing and coordinating legal services meeting the needs of operating businesses, including services relating to organizational structure, contracts and leases, equity and debt financing, ownership and licensing of intellectual property, labor and employment, executive compensation, commercial real estate, commercial disputes, succession planning, and ownership and operation of aircraft. 

Bishop is listed in  in Closely Held Companies and Family Business Law, Corporate Law, and Mergers & Acquisitions Law, and recognized as a North Carolina “Super Lawyer” in Business/Corporate Law, magazineHis professional and community activities have included positions as President of Nat Greene Kiwanis Club, Board Chair of Youth Focus, and President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Greensboro Bar Association, as well as Officer, Board and Committee positions with UNC Law Foundation, UNC Law Alumni Association, the Business Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, Action Greensboro, Hospice at Greensboro Membership Council, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. He is also a graduate of Leadership Greensboro.

Bishop received a law degree (J.D.) from the University of North Carolina, where he was Note and Comment Editor of the North Carolina Law Review, and a B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of North Carolina.

About Ronny D. Lancaster

Ronny Lancaster is Senior Vice President for Government Relations at Assurant Inc. In this capacity, he is responsible for managing Assurant’s public policy program at both the state and federal level.

Lancaster has extensive experience in the medical and public health fields, particularly in the development of public health policy. Prior to Assurant, for 13 years, he served in several positions at the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) in Atlanta, Georgia, including Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Prior to MSM, Lancaster served in various roles at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, including Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. In addition, he has held several senior positions in the Federal Government and in the private sector.

Lancaster received a B.A. in Economics from The Catholic University of America, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree (J.D.) from The Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. 

Lancaster serves on a number of not-for-profit boards in Washington, D. C., including Providence Hospital, City Year, and the Smithsonian Jazz Program at the Museum of American History. He also serves as a Director of OraSure Technologies, Inc., in Bethlehem, Pa.
