The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business honored the Business Fellows Class of 2013 during a medallion ceremony on May 24 in the LaRose Digital Theatre.
After a welcome by program director Tina Das, David Campbell and Kelly Cavanaugh gave an overview of the fellows’ four years in the program. Highlights included cohort classes, a study abroad course to the Yucatan Peninsula to learn about sustainable business practices, and a trip to New York, which involved visits to the New York Stock Exchange and several firms in the area. They also noted the bond the group has formed and the realization that they are part of a network of driven individuals who were dedicated to being leaders in the business school, and now, the business world.
Some of the fellows then shared details about the class’ senior capstone projects – consulting and portfolio management. Paul Flieger and Brielle Sydor explained the projects the students who chose to take the consulting seminar worked on and how they received valuable consulting experience with companies such as Deloitte and SAP.
Justin Wanner and Jane Kolodkin summarized the experience the fellows who chose portfolio management had. Using part of the Love School’s endowment, the group managed a $150,000 portfolio. At the end of the semester, their investments gave them an 11.2% return.

Dean Raghu Tadepalli concluded the program by charging the students to use the tools, skills, ethics and values they have developed over the past four years to face the challenges that come with an uncertain world. He encouraged them to be prepared to seize opportunities and to keep an open mind and a willingness to try different things.
