From the Fayetteville Observer (6/8/13): The General Assembly has approved a bill that would open police records on all private school campuses to the public.
The bill was ratified Wednesday and awaits the governor’s signature.
The legislation requires campus police at private colleges and universities to publicly disclose records, including narrative descriptions surrounding arrests and 911 calls.
The bill was prompted by a lawsuit filed two years ago by a former student journalist at Elon University, Nick Ochsner, after campus police refused to provide a complete incident report involving a student.
