Professor Thomas Erdmann in the Department of Music had three articles published in the July/August 2013 issue of Saxophone Journal. The first is on the saxophone professor at the North Carolina School of the Arts and modern classical saxophone authority Taimur Sullivan. The second is on New York jazz saxophonist and member of both the Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Afro-Latin Jazz orchestras, as well as the author of A Cool Approach To Jazz Theory which is the main jazz theory book used in all four major music schools in Havana, Cuba, Erica von Kleist. The third is on the leading band leader of general purpose music bands on the East Coast, Chris Cole. His bands have been and continue to be the training ground for a large number of nationally working musicians. A small list of those musicians includes Mark Kelly who plays bass for The Roots, American Idol finalist Naomi Gillies, Charles Haynes who plays with Lady Gaga, Amy Heideman who has been a break-out star with Karmin, and Brian McNight’s bassist Chris Loften.
