The Elon alumnus and New Jersey banking executive has been a longtime supporter of the university, most recently with a gift he and his wife made to support the new Martin Alumni Center.
Chris Martin, a 1978 alumnus of Elon now serving as chairman, president and CEO of Provident Financial Services Inc. and The Provident Bank of New Jersey, has been elected to the Elon University Board of Trustees. He begins his service this fall.
The Provident Bank serves its customers through an extensive network of more than 75 branches throughout New Jersey, and through telephone and online banking systems.
Martin and his wife, Nicolette, have been longtime supporters of Elon, most recently through a gift to name the Martin Alumni Center opening this fall in the heart of campus. He is a member of the Order of the Oak, having made a provision for the university through his estate plan, and he established the Martin Family Scholarship to assist students with financial need.
Martin has opened the doors of his company over the years to many interns from the university and has served his alma mater as president of the Elon Alumni Board. That unwavering dedication earned him Elon’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award in 2012.
Closer to home in Manasquan, N.J., Martin dedicates much of his spare time to improving his community. He serves as president of The Provident Bank Foundation, which has provided more than $15 million in grants since its founding for programs focusing on education, health and wellness, recreation, the arts, and social and civic services.
He is vice president and treasurer of The 200 Club of Middlesex County, which provides financial assistance and scholarships to families of law enforcement and public safety officials who were killed or disabled in the line of duty. Martin is a member of the board of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth/Middlesex Counties and a member of the Raritan Bay Medical Center investment committee. He volunteers regularly at local food pantries and Habitat for Humanity build sites.
Martin’s son Nick graduated from Elon University in May 2013, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
