Team from School of Communications provides coverage of international competition

Faculty, students and alumni covered a programming contest for a week in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Faculty, students and alumni from Elon University’s School of Communications spent a week in St. Petersburg, Russia, providing photo, video, text and social media coverage for the ACM-ICPC, or International Collegiate Programming Contest.

About 30,000 college students on six continents competed for 360 slots at the finals of the competition, which was held July 3.

Associate Professor Amanda Sturgill served as the director of ICPCNews, which provided the coverage of all of the events related to the finals, which was sponsored by IBM.

Assistant professors Max Negin and Nicole Triche worked with providing video coverage on a dedicated YouTube channel that also appeared in a live broadcast of the finals in Russia.

Senior lecturer Randy Piland served on the photography staff, shooting everything from ceremonies surrounding the competition to the competition itself.

Rising junior Natalie Beach served as video reporter, and 2013 Master of Interactive Media graduate Dioni Wise reported on the ICPC blog.

2011 iMedia alumna Bettina Johnson directed a small team in social media efforts on multiple channels.

The Elon staff were joined by an international group of students and professionals to create ICPCNews.
