A community picnic and the launch of a special website during Planning Week mark the begining of a yearlong celebratation in honor of Elon's 125th anniversary.
Elon’s 125 anniversary year officially began Aug. 19 at a celebration during the annual Planning Week for faculty and staff.
President Leo M. Lambert hosted a community picnic following his annual address in Alumny Gym. The university also launched a special website where visitors can watch videos, read stories, take a virtual historical tour of the Belk Library colonnades and learn more about Elon’s history and traditions. A list of events planned throughtout the year is also posted there. These include:
- A talk by President Emeritus J. Ear Danieley Sept. 27 during Family Weekend.
- A special exhibit of historic photographs and memorabilia in the Isabella Cannon Room during Homecoming 2013 Weekend, Nov. 8-10, and Founders Day, March 11.
- A tree planting, picnic and the release of “From a Grove of Oaks: The Story of Elon University,” an illustrated book detailing the history of Elon by Professor Emeritus George Troxler, during Founders Day.
Elon is also producing a collectable set of 25 cards highlighting milestones in the university’s history. The cards will be distributed weekly at College Coffee, beginning Aug. 27 and ending Nov. 5.
