SGA to Hold Special Election for Two Constitutional Amendments

The  proposed amendments:

• Article IV, Section B, Subsection b, Clause iii:
  • From: The Freshman Class shall elect three Class Senators.
  • To: The Freshman Class shall elect three (3) Class Senators.
• Article IV, Section C, Subsection a, Clause iii:
  • From: The of representatives for each organization and/or program shall be specified in the Senate Bylaws each year.
  • To: The number of representatives for each organization and/or program shall be specified in the Senate Bylaws each year.
• Article IV, Section C, Subsection b, Clause iii:
  • From: Program representatives shall be by the Department Chair of their respective program.
  • To: Program representatives shall be approved by the Department Chair of their respective program.
• Article IV, Section G, Subsection b:
  • From: Should a vacancy occur within the class office of President, the class Vice President shall assume the duties of President.  In the case that the Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, or a class senate position become vacant, the process of filling the vacancy shall be in accordance with Article V, Section B, Subsection A, clause b of the Student Government Constitution.

       1. The Senate has the power to override a presidential veto with two-thirds majority of those present. This override must take place within two consecutive meetings of the bill being returned to the Senate.
       2. A vetoed bill may also be amended and presented to the Senate for a re-vote.
    4. Any bill presented to the President of the SGA must be signed or vetoed within two weeks time. Failure to do so renders the bill effective immediately.

1. Organization Council Senators shall be responsible for communicating with their constituents, student members of organizations within their clusters, and regularly reporting on these sentiments to the Senate as defined in the Senate By-Laws each year.
2. Organization Council Senators shall meet with an assembly of the Organization Presidents in their cluster, at an interval to be defined in the Senate By-Laws each year.
3. Organization Council Senators shall formulate a plan for their clusters, and present this plan to the Council Liaison at the beginning of each senate year.

1. Academic Council Senators shall be responsible for communicating with their constituents, students within their respective Academic School, and regularly reporting on these sentiments to the Senate as defined in the Senate By-Laws each year.
2. Academic Council Senators shall meet  with their representative School’s Dean, at an interval to be defined in the Senate By-Laws each year.
3. Academic Council Senators shall formulate a plan for their clusters, and present this plan to the Council Liaison and the Senate at the beginning of each senate year.

Proposed Amendment E:  Clarify senatorial duties and committee membership

2. Each Senator shall be responsible for all SGA meetings required by office, Senate, Council, Committee, special or otherwise. In addition each Senator has an obligation to be informed of the location and time of the meetings.
3. Each Senator shall be responsible for the minimum office hours as required by the Senate Rules.
