The article, first published in the Journal of College Science Teaching in 2012, was a finalist in the 2013 Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Awards.
Assistant Professor of Biology Tonya Laakko Train and Associate Professor of Biology David E. Gammon co-authored the article, titled “The Structure and Assessment of a Unique and Popular Interdisciplinary Science Course for Nonmajors.”
The Association of Education Publishers Awards honor “excellence and innovation in the educational resource community.” The article was one of four finalists in the learned article category. In their article, Train and Gammon outlined the structure and administration of a popular interdisciplinary course called “Science Without Borders.” Pre and post-course surveys were administered to more than 200 students to assess whether student competency in, and/or perceptions of, science were changed.
