A concert in March 2014 will give top choral directors in the southern United States an opportunity hear Elon University students on stage.
élan, Elon University’s a cappella ensemble, has been invited to appear in concert at the Southern Division American Choral Directors Association Conference on March 7, 2014 in Jacksonville, Fla.
“It is an amazing opportunity for our students to perform on stage in the same concert featuring headliners The New York Voices,” said Elon Director of Choral Activities Stephen A. Futrell. Futrell was also invited to present at the conference and élan will participate in the presentation.
Futrell is recognized as a choral director whose expertise is in vocal technique and health related to various styles and genres. The presentation will demonstrate vocal technique in the context of commercial/popular style as well as sound reinforcement and mic technique. In order to be selected to perform at a conference, recordings must be submitted to a panel of jurors.
“The recording you submitted with your interest session proposal are fabulous, and I think your group will be a wonderful addition to the evening concert session featuring the New York Voices,” said Kevin Fenton, ACDA Southern Division president and Professor of Choral Studies at Florida State University.
This year élan’s repertoire features a cappella arrangements of songs by groups such as Zero 7, Yes, Pink Floyd, Ben Folds, Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars, Peter Gabriel, The Eurythmics, Queen and Cream
