Awtrey's talk focused on recent research results he obtained in collaboration with Elon mathematics majors Nicole Miles '15, Christopher Shill '14 and Erin Strosnider '14.
Assistant professor of mathematics Chad Awtrey presented a research talk at Davidson College on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Awtrey’s talk was part of the Palmetto Number Theory Series, a program of mathematical research talks that began in South Carolina in 2006 and is now funded by grants from the National Science Foundation (DMS-1303254) and the National Security Agency.
Awtrey’s talk, “Degree 14 2-adic fields,” focused on recent research results he obtained in collaboration with Elon mathematics majors Nicole Miles ’15, Christopher Shill ’14, Erin Strosnider ’14 and UNC-Greensboro mathematics doctoral student Jonathan Milstead. A corresponding paper has been accepted for publication in the journal Involve, which is a top-ranked professional mathematics research journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research resulting from student-faculty collaborations.
This research was supported in part by a grant from the Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics, an NSF-funded program administered by Michael Dorff of Brigham Young University.
