Several regional news sources, including News 14 Carolina and the Associated Press, reported on findings from an Elon University Poll conducted in September 2013.
The Associated Press reported on the poll’s September 2013 survey, as did News 14 Carolina, a 24-hour cable news channel serving the Tar Heel State. The state’s flagship newspapers, the Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer, as well as WRAL-TV in Raleigh, also shared poll data with their respective audiences.
In Washington, poll data was picked up by the National Journal in its coverage of Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., who runs for reelection next year.
The poll of 701 registered voters in North Carolina found public disapproval of both President Barack Obama’s job performance and North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s job performance. Respondents disapprove of “Obamacare” and expanded rights for concealed-carry permit holders, they believe teachers in the state are underpaid, and they broadly support a new state law requiring photo identification at the ballot booth.
