For the third year in a row, the Italian Studies section of the Department of World Languages and Culture presents a week dedicated to Italian heritage, language and culture.
The Italian Festival begins on Monday, Oct. 21 and continues through Thursday, Oct. 24 with a variety of interdisciplinary events and activities for students, faculty and the greater Elon community. The first event takes place Monday night with a screening of Maurizio Nichetti’s hilarious comedy “Ratataplan”. Tuesday’s events focus on the food of Italy, beginning with College Coffee in the morning and two competitions similar to Top Chef and Iron Chef in the afternoon at the Global Neighborhood’s demonstration kitchen. On Wednesday night Elon Anthropology Professor Mussa Idris will present and discuss the documentary “Eritrea’s Struggle to Survive”, about the presence of Italian culture, architecture and language in Eritrea. The week’s final event takes place on Thursday evening with a series of performances of music, opera and theatre in Whitley Auditorium, featuring Elon’s own Hallie Hogan and Kevin Otos, along with local band Mebanesville, as well as group of student musicians. Please see calendar for specific locations and times. Feel free to contact Professor Melita (mmelita@elon.edu) or Professor Essary (bessary@elon.edu) for more information.
