The assistant professor of political science spoke with North Carolina's statewide cable news channel about visible disagreements among members of the Republican Party.
Assistant Professor Jason Husser, the assistant director of the Elon University Poll, spoke with News 14 Carolina reporter Loretta Boniti on Oct. 22, 2013, about the way the recent federal government shutdown has made visible the fissures that divide today’s Republican Party.
Husser talked with Boniti from Elon University’s studio in the Office of University Communications.
From the article and accompanying video:
“The division is a trade off,” said Jason Husser with Elon University. “In some ways it helps the Republican party, because they can speak to a wide variety of voters. It allows them to appeal to more conservative districts and more moderate districts. However, there are also costs, because at a national level it sends very mixed signals, and you see parties not working together for really important things, like raising the debt ceiling.”
