Workers removed a portion of an archway entrance to Elon's campus as a safety precaution, but plan to restore the icon in the spring.
Cracks caused by wet weather and freezing temperatures have prompted the temporary removal of a portion of the archway where many enter Elon University’s campus from Williamson Avenue.
Concerns about the stability of the brick arch led the university’s Physical Plant to remove it as a safety precaution. The two brick columns that held the archway remain, and workers plan to restore the arch during warmer weather in late spring of 2014.
