Spring Hope Enterprise (12/13/13): Despite several citizen complaints and concerns from the N.C. Attorney General's Office over the town's public records policy, council members declined to address the issue at a meeting this week.
The town of Middlesex earlier this year passed a public records policy that includes fees for records requests that take more than 30 minutes to fulfill. Since the policy took effect, the council has received numerous complaints and Attorney General Roy Cooper has expressed concern about whether it meets state law. Some council members previously indicated the policy would be revisited, and several residents took advantage of this week’s meeting to directly address the council on the issue. The Enterprise reports that the council took no action.
