CHICAGO SUN-TIMES coverage of Lexie Kamerman
The following message was delivered to the Elon University community on Jan. 18, 2014, from Vice President for Student Life Smith Jackson:
Our Residence Life staff received the sad news today that a former assistant director of Residence Life for the East Residence Area (now Historic Neighborhood), Alexis Kamerman, was one of the persons killed Friday evening during an attack on a restaurant in Kabul. Lexie worked at Elon during the ’12-13 academic year. She had many friends at Elon and was a very engaging and positive minded professional who championed the ideals of inclusion and respect. She had a love of travel and was working this year in residence life at the American University of Afghanistan.
A “Gathering of Friends” is planned for Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the sacred space in the Numen Lumen Pavilion. This will be an informal and open time for those who wish to express thoughts, feelings, and remembrances of Lexie. All are welcome.
Please let me know if I may be of assistance to you or students suffering from this sudden loss. I, the Chaplain and counselors may be reached through our Campus Safety and Security Office at 336.278.5555.
