The film will be screened at the biggest festival of its kind in Amsterdam.
Jen Guy Metcalf, an assistant professor of dance, and J. McMerty ’00, the director of the Elon in Los Angeles program and an instructor in the School of Communications, collaborated on a dance film titled “The Window of the 11th Floor” that was selected for screening at the Cinedans Dance on Screen Festival in Amsterdam in March.
The festival is considered the biggest of its kind in the world.
Cinedans received 250 submissions, only a quarter of which were accepted. Metcalf, who worked as the choreographer and director, and McMerty, who served as the cinematographer, shot and produced the film in downtown Los Angeles during summer 2013 with professional dancers Allynee Noelle (the principal ballerina with the Los Angeles Ballet) and Bruce Weber (a freelance dancer formerly with Cirque du Soleil).
“The Window of the 11th Floor” was also screened at the Movies by Movers Film Festival in Winston-Salem, N.C., where it earned honorable mention recognition after the competition winner.
Metcalf was in Los Angeles to teach a course called “Dance for the Camera” for the Elon in LA summer program, which McMerty oversees.
