The assistant professor in the School of Education helped a local elementary school establish a family engagement program with parents and children of a local apartment complex.
Assistant Professor Cherrel Dyce and a program she helped create at a Burlington elementary school were the subject of a Jan. 27 front-page story in the (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News.
Dyce, who teaches in the School of Education, had been working with teachers at Grove Park Elementary School on professional development surrounding parental interaction. When the teachers wanted to do more, it led to the start of “Saturday School in the Neighborhood” at a nearby apartment complex.
