Elon Club Softball opened up the season last weekend with a double header against Campbell.
These were two conference games as part of their inaugural season in the NCSA. Elon pitcher Jamie Bell, who was coming off three years of not playing, got off to a slow start and let up eight runs in the first inning. After that first inning, she only allowed five runs the rest of the game. Bell and Ali Lucchesi led the offense in the first game, going 2 for 3 and scoring a run.
Sam Lucey, Taylor Cesarski, and Casey McVicar also contributed to the offense with a hit each and scoring a run. Elon dropped the first game by a final score of 13-5.
The second game of the series proved better for Elon. Lianna Pevar took the mound with four strikeouts. She also helped herself out as she scored four runs, and she also hit a triple. There were several defensive plays, especially by Tina Anwyll who made numerous catches. The offensive leader of the game was Sam Lucey who went 5 for 6 with three triples and three runs scored.
Other players who contributed multiple runs were Jamie Bell, Kelsey Howard, and Taylor Cesarski.
Elon won the second game 18-16 with a record that now stands at 1-1.
