Junior strategic communications and history double major Yasmine Arrington was selected to the Multicultural Advertising Internship Program and will be the first Elon School of Communications student to intern with Ogilvy & Mather, an international marketing, advertising and public relations agency in New York.
Started in 1973, the Multicultural Advertising Internship Program helps students from multicultural backgrounds start their careers in the advertising industry. Each year, students are selected for a 10-week paid summer internship at a member advertising agency. After the program, interns become members of the MAIP Alumni Association, which connects them with more than 2,500 other MAIP professionals.
Arrington’s internship brings her to Ogilvy & Mather, which is one of the eight largest advertising networks in the world. It boasts clients such as American Express, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, Motorola and Pfizer. Today, Ogilvy has more than 450 offices in 169 cities.
Arrington was born and raised in Washington, D.C. In 2010, she founded the non-profit ScholarCHIPS to raise scholarship funds for high school graduates with parents in prison pursuing a higher education. Arrington has also received national recognition as a Jack Kent Cooke College Scholar, an Abramson Foundation Scholar and a 2012 BET Black Girls Rock M.A.D. (Making a Difference) Girl.
