Dooley joins the Elon University community after spending 15 years in student affairs and assessment at Marquette University in Wisconsin.
Dooley sits on the Student Life Vice President’s Council and provides senior-level leadership for the Office of Residence Life, the Residential Campus Initiative, the Multicultural Center, the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement and, as a joint report with Interim Associate Provost Brooke Barnett, the Gender and LGBTQIA Center.
“Jon is a seasoned and talented professional who is skilled at collaborating across departments to achieve common goals,” said Smith Jackson, vice president for Student Life and dean of students. “He brings innovation, energy and commitment to furthering Elon as a residential liberal arts university. He and his family are a great fit with the Elon community.”
Dooley most recently worked at Marquette University as senior associate dean of student development/director of student affairs assessment. He was a member of the program committee for the master’s program in college student personnel administration and taught courses on diverse students on the college campus, cross cultural engagement, leadership & communication, and practica in student affairs leadership.
He has also held positions in residence life, leadership, community development, and student activities, and taught at the University of Illinois and James Madison University.

Dooley earned his bachelor’s degree in history and social studies education from St. Norbert College, a master’s degree in counseling psychology from James Madison University and a doctorate in educational policy and leadership from Marquette University.
