An acclaimed author and ecologist visits Elon University on Earth Day to share more details and insights from her book on cancer and the environment in a program that is free and open to the public.
Dr. Sandra Steingraber is an ecologist, author, cancer survivor and a recognized authority on the environmental links to cancer and human health. “Living Downstream: An Ecologists’ Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment” presents cancer as a human rights issue. Originally published in 1997, it was the first to bring together data on toxic releases with data from U.S. cancer registries and won praise from international media including The Washington Post, Publishers Weekly, The Lancet and The London Times.
Steingraber, who will discuss the implications of the environmental crisis and the connection between environmental and human health, is currently a scholar in residence at Ithaca College.
Steingraber’s talk occurs on the first day of Elon University’s Earth Week, which will include several events to promote environmental stewardship and community connections.
