Kessler was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Year and Hexter earned the league’s Coach of the Year award.

In the team’s first season of play, Hexter coached the Phoenix to a 4-1 A-Sun record and an 8-8 overall mark. Elon finished second in the conference during the regular season and won all five of its home games.

“We are excited to have so many of our players be selected to the all-conference teams in our inaugural year,” Hexter said. “With a team full of 20 freshmen, I think it says a lot about the hard work they have put in throughout the season. We played a very tough schedule and are looking forward to continued improvement next year.”

Kessler earned rookie of the year accolades after leading the team with 23 goals and a league-leading 22 assists on the season. The Owings Mill, Md., native owns a 93.0 shot on goal percentage and posted a career-high five goals and six points against St. Francis. She was named the A-Sun Player of the Week on March 3.

Kessler was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun along with goalie Rachel Ramirez. The two joined 10 others on the first team and were the only freshmen on the list. Defenders Rowan Drake and Erin Murnane were two of 13 players to earn league second team honors. Olivia Fernandez and Anna Vitton joined Kessler, Ramirez and Murnane on the Atlantic Sun Freshmen Team as Elon led the way with five players on the 12-member rookie list.
