Vital Signs travels to New York City next spring for a joint performance with several other a capella groups under the direction of the man who produced the television show “The Sing Off” and acted as vocal producer for the Hollywood hit “Pitch Perfect.”
The performance takes place March 29, 2015, and members of the Elon group Vital Signs will spend five days in the city preparing for the concert with other choristers from around the world. Sharon will lead the performance and serve as the clinician for the residency.
“Vital Signs received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as the exceptional quality of their audition recording,” said Jonathan Griffith, artistic director and principal conductor for Distinguished Concerts International New York, the organization hosting the event. “It is quite an honor just to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community.”
Founded in 2011, Vital Signs features 20 student performers, including eight graduating seniors. The group performs at various events for other student organizations, and it holds its own fall and spring concerts. The group was contacted after one of its YouTube videos caught the attention of concert organizers.
Vital Signs hosted a benefit concert in February to raise $3,000 for Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina. The group recently released its first EP titled “impulse,” recorded with Liquid 5th Productions based out of Durham, N.C.
“None of us saw this coming. It’s incredible that we were discovered because of one of our YouTube videos,” said Elon University junior Nicholas Cook, president of Vital Signs. “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Vital Signs to sing on such a renowned stage and we are incredibly excited to make it happen.”
