The one-hour school receptions allowed students to introduce parents to faculty mentors, laugh with friends and recognize the people who helped make the last four years possible.
On their last full day as Elon seniors, students in the university’s four undergraduate schools took some time to mix and mingle with parents, faculty and other graduating students before tomorrow’s Commencement ceremony.
Parents were introduced to favorite professors as students shared hugs and laughs over cookies and pink lemonade.
For many graduates, tomorrow’s graduation is an accomplishment shared by many within the Elon community – professors, parents, siblings and peers.
“I would like to thank my parents who have been so gracious and so kind to me,” said Hannah Knoblauch, a strategic communications major. “I’m adopted and so they welcomed me into their homes and their lives 22 years ago and have given me such wonderful opportunities ever since.”
Like many students, Stephen Sotolongo, an elementary education major, thanked a faculty member who became an advocate for him not only inside the classroom, but by providing guidance on life decisions.
And Sean Burke, a finance major, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with two friends and fellow graduates who he credited with helping him make the most of his time at Elon.
