New in 2013-14 was the Rivalry Series, which Club Baseball president Ben Koffel conceptualized. His team had not earned a win over rival East Carolina University in three years and Koffel said he believed that crowd support could help the team to victory. He also saw that other clubs needed a greater fan base at key contests throughout the season.
The first Rivalry series game featured Club Baseball up against ECU and more 100 students showed up to help Elon gain a win over ECU. ECU’s coach emailed Campus Recreation the following week to praise Koffel and the climate created by the Rivalry game.
