Dance major honored at Los Angeles film festival

Rising senior Amber Schmiesing, whose work with film was inspired by her experience in the "Elon in L.A." program, won the Dance Camera West film festival's Emerging Artist Second Runner Up Award for an original dance film.

Elon University senior Amber Schmiesing, a dance performance & choreography major, was honored in June at the Dance Camera West film festival in California with the Emerging Artist Second Runner Up Award for an original dance film she produced during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Amber traveled to Los Angeles for the festival and to receive her award. Also in attendance at the film festival was the 2014 summer cohort of Elon dance majors participating in the Elon in L.A. summer program and studying “Dance for the Camera” with Professor Jen Guy Metcalf.

Schmiesing, a native of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, was a member of the inaugural 2013 “Dance for the Camera” course and has worked closely with Metcalf on developing her editing and directing skills.
