Associate professor discusses moviemaking and other experiences.
Elon University School of Communications associate professor Paul Castro was featured on a Fox 8 WGHP “Newsmakers” segment Sept. 11. Fox 8 News anchor Neill McNeill talked to Castro about his experiences as a Hollywood screenwriter, U.S. Navy officer and suicide prevention counselor.

Castro, who came to Elon in 2010, wrote the original screenplay that became the 2007 movie “August Rush,” released by Warner Bros. The fantasy-drama about a musical child prodigy starred Robin Williams, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell, Terrence Howard and Freddie Highmore.
He teaches courses such as Writing for Television and Cinema and Producing for the Screen in the School of Communications. He also advises CinElon, a student organization for cinema students, and has aided the teams of students who produced award-winning work for the Sprite Films Competition in 2012 and 2013.
