This past Saturday, September 13th, the men's rugby team competed with both UNC Charlotte and Wingate.
In the first game, the team set a positive tone for the season with a 21-0 victory over UNC Charlotte, last year’s conference runner-up. Although wet conditions slowed down play, Elon was able to control the game; the attacking forwards were especially successful in winning most of the scrums. Captains Halley Gartner and Nicholai DiBiagio lead the way, scoring a try each. Quinn Hefferon went 1-2 on conversions and 3-3 on penalty kicks. Additionally, Jack French displayed his versatility, playing nearly every position in pack while also kicking for touch. There were many standout performances by Elon on Saturday, but the Man of the Match honors went to Cam Blackwood, who excited the crowd with his explosive hits. In their second match against Wingate, the Elon B-side fell to Wingate, but gained valuable experience. Overall, it was a great start to the season! Come support the team in their rivalry game this Friday night at 7pm against UNCG at the South Campus fields! Bring your parents and some money for food sales!
