Student leader Jensen Roll is using creative solutions everyday to make an impact on the local community. This fall, Jensen had the opportunity to share his ideas at SOCAP, the largest social impact conference in the world.
Making an impact on your community is essential part of leadership, and a reason why Tier III of the LEAD Program focuses on leading for change. When there is a problem, student leaders like Jensen Roll, find unique and creative solutions.
Elon Junior and Leadership Fellow Jensen Roll thought outside the box by bringing Helping Other People Eat (H.O.P.E.), a social nonprofit organization that fights hunger by providing local food pantries with sustainable financial support, to local North Carolina businesses.
“As the founder and president of H.O.P.E., I have been pushed to a new level of leadership where I not only have to lead my peers, but also professionals in the community that serve on the board,” Jensen says. “This has given me a new understanding of how factors like age play into leadership.”
And with the help of the Center for Leadership, he was able to further his creativity and leadership skills by attending this year’s SOCAP Conference, the largest social impact investing conference in the world, in San Francisco.
SOCAP is a conference dedicated to increasing the flow of capital toward social good. Their unique approach emphasizes cross-sector convening and gathers voices across a broad spectrum to catalyze unexpected connections. SOCAP brings together global innovators, investors, foundations, governments, institutions, and social entrepreneurs to build a better world for future generations. This year there were more than 2,500 people who attended the conference flying in from a range of many different countries around the world.
At this conference Jensen was able to meet with Google, the Rockefeller Foundation, qualified investors and many other brilliant social entrepreneurs from around the world. This conference was not only an opportunity to learn, but also an exciting chance for Jensen to tell others about H.O.P.E. His goal now is to stay in touch with the different connections he has made during his time in San Francisco and to continue the discussion of scaling H.O.P.E.
