Lucy Werner ’14 joins National Tour of Annie shortly after graduation from Elon

Though her casting director originally said “April Fools,” Elon graduate found out that her casting in Annie was not a joke, but in fact a reality

Before she walked across the graduation stage to receive her diploma, Lucy Werner had already been invited to join the cast of the National Tour of Annie starting in September of this year.  She auditioned for various casting directors at Elon throughout her senior year, one of which ended up calling Lucy and a few of her peers in for the final callbacks of Annie.  On April Fools’ Day, she learned that as a result of those callbacks she would be playing Lily, a role she loves because of the character’s personality, choreography, vocal involvement, and costuming throughout the show.

Lucy feels as though Annie is the perfect situation for her as she moves on from Elon.  “I’m not quite ready to move anywhere in particular and start a new life.  I want to see the country and the rest of the world, and I am really excited to work, and feel productive and independent,” she said.  Though she feels that she is well prepared for this professional experience, she is reminded that the learning process never stops, “I guess that’s something I’ve learned from Elon, there will always be a ton that I’ll learn along the way”.  Though slightly nervous on her first day, Lucy fit right into the welcoming cast and became fast friends with the little girls in particular due to their shared love of cartwheels. Lucy and the cast of Annie will complete rehearsals, tech week, and previews in Utica, New York before opening in Detroit on September 26.
