Williams will join Elon President Leo M. Lambert at the Waldorf Astoria for the Oct. 16 event, which will include a special presentation about Elon’s School of Communications.
Anchor of “NBC Nightly News” and Elon parent Brian Williams will take the stage along with Elon President Leo M. Lambert on Thursday, Oct. 16, as New York’s Elon community comes together to celebrate the university.
The evening’s program will feature Williams as moderator of a guest panel representing Elon’s School of Communications, including alumni, a current student and an advisory board member. The audience will also hear Lambert’s update on the university as well as a performance by alumni of Elon’s music theatre program.
This year’s Evening for Elon will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria in response to the tremendous growth of the event since its launch five years ago. Last September, the event drew more than 650 alumni, parents and friends to The Plaza Hotel.
“Evening for Elon events held across the country provide an opportunity to build strong connections among the university and alumni, parents and friends,” says Brian Feeley ’03, Elon’s director of alumni engagement. “Although each one is special in its own right, the upcoming event in New York will undoubtedly be Elon’s largest-ever gathering of this kind away from campus, and it will feature an inspiring program.”
The event will mark the fifth Evening for Elon hosted by university trustee Ed Doherty and wife, Joan, of Saddle River, N.J. The Dohertys have been generous Elon supporters and established the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business with a $1 million gift in 2007. They are the parents of alumna Kerry Doherty Gatlin ’07, who, along with her husband, Doug Gatlin ’08, will speak at this year’s event.
