Twenty-seven students met with alumni and viewed the operations of several media organizations.
The Elon University School of Communications first-year Fellows traveled to Atlanta at the end of October to network with and learn from media producers and alumni.
Twenty-seven students, along with senior Fellows Brian Merzerski and Katie Maraghy, met with leaders at CNN, Atlanta Magazine, Edelman Public Relations, WSB-TV and radio, and the Atlanta Braves.
The meetings were designed to provide the first-year Fellows with a greater awareness of career opportunities and the various paths of study open to them. The Fellows are creating video projects and writing alumni profile pieces as a follow-up to the experience.
In addition to visiting the media outlets, the Fellows and 14 Atlanta area alumni had dinner and discussed topics ranging from career paths to academic minors to college regrets. Students also had breakfast with Kaitlin Buck ’11, who works in the production office of the AMC show “The Walking Dead,” and spent time with Matt Montemayor ’01, video producer for the Atlanta Braves.
This year’s Atlanta experience was led by Communications Fellows program director and associate professor Naeemah Clark and assistant professor Gerald Gibson, who also serves as the School’s coordinator of alumni relations.
