Toward the end of a wide-ranging interview with WFAE public radio in Charlotte, Gov. Pat McCrory said that the state's personnel laws need to be changed to allow more transparency. McCrory's statement was in response to a question about the resignation of Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools Superintendent Heath Morrison.
Gov. Pat McCrory stopped by WFAE public radio Friday to discuss the mid-term elections, Republican leadership in the state, and his plans for the coming year. During a question and answer session at the end, Charlotte Talks host Mike Collins asked for the governor’s thoughts on the resignation of Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools Superintendent Heath Morrison, how much information the school system should provide about his departure, and how quickly the school system needed to be transparent.
McCrory responded that the schools need to release information “as quickly as possible, and I also have to recognize they may have some state personnel laws, which need to be changed to allow more transparency, but I think they need to get the information out.”
Morrison resigned last week after the Charlotte-Mecklenberg School Board held a long closed door session to review an internal investigation into his management. The school system has declined to release a copy of the investigation, but the Charlotte Observer was able to get a copy of it, and has reported about its contents.
