Elon’s alumni donors will be specially recognized as part of the annual celebration that ushers in the winter season to campus.
Like many of her fellow alumni, Kat Gosney ’09 has fond memories tied to Elon’s luminaries. “As a freshman, I remember walking the pathways in the quad and seeing the luminaries for the first time,” Gosney says. “It was really a moving experience, and I’ll never forget how beautiful the campus looked that night.”
For more than 20 years, students and alumni like Gosney have been able to walk the brick pathways between Moseley Center and Alamance Building and soak in the beauty of more than 1,500 luminaries as part of the annual Festival of Holiday Lights.
At this year’s event on Dec. 1, alumni donors from the 2014 academic year (June 1, 2014 – May 31, 2015) will receive special recognition for their support as part of the celebration. All alumni and senior students who have made a financial contribution to the university will be honored by having their name on one of the iconic luminaries that light Elon’s pathways.
“This is a special opportunity for us to recognize the alumni and students who play such a critical role in Elon’s success,” says Brian Feeley ’03, Elon’s director of alumni engagement. “The luminaries are one of Elon’s most beloved traditions and this year our alumni from across the globe will have the opportunity to be included in this meaningful celebration.”
Alumni and seniors who have not yet made a gift to Elon can still be included in this special tradition by donating in the coming weeks. “As an alumna, I’m so excited to be a part of this year’s celebration,” Gosney says. “A lot has changed since winter of 2005, but joining in this year’s event definitely brings new life to one of my first lasting memories at Elon.”
To be included in the luminary celebration by making a donation to the Elon fund or department of your choice, click here or call (336) 278-7444. Alumni donors are encouraged to share their pride in Elon on social media by using the #ElonLuminary hashtag and changing their profile photo or banner photo on Facebook. A live stream of the festival will begin at 6:30 p.m.
