Men’s Ice Hockey competed in their rivalry game against Duke the weekend of Nov. 8-9 at the Triangle Sportsplex. While the team was pumped for this game, it was missing some major players due to injury and other events, leaving them with only four defensemen. The team’s biggest challenge of the game would be beating Duke’s tremendous goalkeeper. Physically, Elon dominated the game with about 20 hits a period, finishing the first period 2-0 with goals from Cameron Bloomer and Maxx Forti with assists from Greg Melanson and Nick Garfield. Duke came back to tie the game in the third period, but Elon triumphed with a 3-2 win after an awesome goal from Sam Sarath, who caught a pass mid air, continued to beat a defensemen and shot a perfectly timed goal. From there, Elon played intense defense fending off multiple odd man rushes with plenty of body checks.
