Christine Sleeter, “Excellence and Equity Require Cultural Competence”
Lakeside Meeting Rooms, Moseley Center, 6:30 p.m.
Many educators regard teaching increasingly diverse student populations as a challenge that can be met best by treating all as if they were the same. Drawing on her own experience as a teacher and teacher educator, and her research in social justice-oriented multicultural education and ethnic studies, Sleeter shows why excellence and equity require educators to develop cultural competence, and what culturally competent teaching can look like in the classroom.
