Ashes to Go (9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.), Ecumenical Service (12:15 p.m.), and Catholic Mass (9:00 p.m.)
There are four opportunities to receive ashes this year for Ash Wednesday.
Ecumenical Service led by Associate Chaplains Rev. Dr. Joel Harter and Fr. Gerry Waterman at Elon Community Church at 12:15 p.m.
Catholic Mass led by Fr. Gerry Waterman at Elon Community Church at 9:00 p.m.
This year we are also introducing Ashes to Go. Two brief prayer services with ashes at 9:00 a.m. (Numen Lumen Pavilion 201) and 3:30 p.m. (Phi Beta Kappa Plaza, weather permitting, or NLP 201).
Catholics and many Protestants celebrate Ash Wednesday as the beginning of Lent – a period of repentance and preparation for Christians preceding Easter. The 9:00 p.m. service will be a Catholic Mass with ashes. The other services are ecumenical. All are welcome to receive ashes, regardless of background, as a remembrance of our mortality and our need for grace.
