Elon University was represented at the 2015 MTEA Conference held at NYU Steinhardt from Jan. 9-11, 2015.
Associate Professor Lynne Kurdziel-Formato presented “Deconstruction to Create Pathways to Style,” while Assistant Professor Kurt Robinson and his wife Felicitas DeLaFare served on a panel titled “Crossing Borders with Musical Theatre.”
Also contributing to the conference at large was musical director Rick Church. Attendees and presenters at this conference came from across the United States, as well as China, Thailand, Germany, Sweden and Denmark. The keynote speaker was Tom Kitt who received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and two Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Orchestrations for “Next to Normal.”
The Elon MTEA contigent was also a major component of the artistic team behind the recent production of “In the Heights” seen on the McCrary stage Feb. 12-15, 2015, with Kurdziel-Formato serving as director & choreographer, Church as music director, Robinson as vocal coach and DeLaFare as dialect coach.
MTEA is an international organization. Perth, Australia, is the site of the next conference.
