Students competed at the 2015 Beta Alpha Psi southeast regional meeting, presenting on financial literacy, effective chapter operations and international impact.
The students competed in three best practice categories: financial literacy, effective operations and international impact.
For the financial literacy category, seniors Matt Zimpelman, Richard Segal, Kevin Smeaton and Kenny Straub explained how the chapter has helped Elon students to understand the financial ramifications of decisions they make while at school. Their presentation included a discussion of the Winter Term “Burst the Bubble” course they facilitated to teach their peers about financial literacy.
In the effective operations category, juniors Ryan Struble and Ryan Herring, and sophomores Hannah Braun and Allyson Hanover, presented what the chapter has done this past year to improve operating procedures.
In the international impact category, Adam Knaszak ’16, Robert Danis ‘16, Caleb Newcomb ‘16, Jacob Orr ‘16 and Harrison Rowe ‘17 presented what the chapter has done in the past year to bring a global perspective to members.
The students also participated in professional development sessions, networking opportunities and officer transition sessions. The meeting’s theme was “Developing Our Future.”
Patty Cox, BAP faculty advisor and assistant professor of accounting, accompanied the students to the meeting.
Beta Alpha Psi is an international honor society for financial information students and professionals. The Lambda Xi chapter is hosted by the Department of Accounting in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.
