An airport security project managed by Associate Professor Scott Wolter and two students was showcased on March 15, 2015, in one of North Carolina's largest daily newspapers.

[/caption]The (Greensboro, N.C.) News & Record reported on March 15, 2015, about an X-ray scanner research project led locally by Associate Professor Scott Wolter in Elon University’s engineering department.
The story, “Elon team works to develop better X-ray scanning system,“ included interviews with Wolter and two undergraduate researchers, Jake Smith ’16 and James Fariello ’17, regarding their contributions to larger airport security efforts funded by the federal Transportation Security Administration.
“We have to be ahead of the bad guys,” Wolter told the newspaper. “There are chemists and biologists concocting these things. We have to be smarter than they are.”
