The Near-Peer Mentoring College Challenge is a White House sponsored challenge that encourages colleges throughout the nation to reach out to their local high schools and help guide students to a higher education.
The way to win the challenge is to share how your college or university is dedicated to promoting a higher education for the community through social media (i.e. YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) with the hashtag #ReachHigher. The more
shares it gets, the more likely it is to win! The college or university with the best video submission has the honor to have Michelle Obama speak at their next spring commencement ceremony.
For this challenge, Elon decided to focus on The Center for Access and Success. The Center reaches out to the community through the Elon Academy, the Watson/Odyssey Scholars Program, Collegiate Start @Elon, and the It Takes a Village Project. These different programs are dedicated towards helping traditionally underrepresented students succeed in school starting at the pre-K level and into higher education. More information about each program can be found at: http://www.elon.edu/e-web/academics/access_success/default.xhtml.
