The North Carolina Association of CPAs is honoring the associate professor for her dedication and commitment to the field of accounting education.
Linda Poulson, associate professor of accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting[/caption]Linda Poulson, associate professor of accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, has been named the 2015 Outstanding Educator of the Year by the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA).
The association’s award recognizes a member’s outstanding performance and contributions to the field of accounting education. According to the NCACPA, contributions include:
- Innovative teaching that informs and inspires students
- Exceptional accomplishment in research and scholarly pursuits
- Contributions to the accounting profession through active involvement in professional organizations
- Developing and sharing exceptional skill and knowledge in the discipline
- Contributions to the community through service in civic and charitable organizations
- Generous commitment of time and energy to student advising and mentoring.
The NCACPA will present the award to Poulson at the association’s annual business meeting in May.
Poulson joined Elon’s faculty 17 years ago, and has led her department as chair since 2010, as well as from 1999-2001. Additionally, she was the founding faculty advisor for Elon’s Lambda Xi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi.
During her tenure, Poulson received the following awards: Love School of Business Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching (2012) and Service (2006), Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year (2012) and the Student Government Association’s Dr. Gerald Francis Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year (2007).
Prior to Elon, Poulson was an assistant professor at Regis University, a tax manager at Arthur Young & Co., and a staff accountant at Coopers & Lybrand.
An active member of NCACPA since 2005, Poulson has served on the association’s board of directors, financial literacy council, minority issues committee, foundation board and accounting education committee. She is also a member of the American Accounting Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Black Accountants.
Poulson received a doctorate in accounting from Saint Louis University, and both a Master of Taxation and bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Denver.
She is a certified public accountant in North Carolina and Colorado.
