Donations from the Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council benefitted Allied Churches of Alamance County, and were distributed by Campus Kitchen at Elon University.
On Monday, April 13, 2015, 22 international fraternity and sorority chapters at Elon University collectively raised 2,461 pounds of food. This was a great kick off to the 2015 Greek Week festivities. This is the second year that Greek Life has collaborated with Campus Kitchen at Elon University to host such a large-scale food drive on campus during Greek Week. In 2014, Greek Life collected 2,344 pounds of food throughout the entire Greek Week.
The Greek Life Greek Week student coordinators met and communicated regularly with the Campus Kitchen Food Drive Coordinator to plan and finalize the logistics of this year’s event. Jenna Mason, the Campus Kitchen Food Drive Coordinator noted, “This year we worked really hard to ensure that the food drive was not only just bringing in a lot of food, but also the types of food that Allied Churches really needs. Everyone was so receptive and I was amazed, not only by how much food we brought in, but the incredible variety as well.” Jenna also commented on the hard work and support from the Greek Life Student Leaders, Lauren Kukosky, Joe Ward, and Hanna Ito. Mason mentioned they helped immensely to make this a successful Greek Week.
Seeing that the PanHellenic Council collected 2,344 pounds last year, it seems that numbers will only continue to rise as this partnership continues to prosper. The amazing participation from Greek Life will positively impact the Burlington community and keep the partnership between Allied Churches and Elon alive.
